Jade UI 2025, Sculpture

With the development of technology, the ways humans record information have become increasingly immaterial. In the networked era, information detaches from physical form, relying on constantly updated systems. Everyday actions—clicking, typing, connecting, deleting, verifying—form a new language of the present, yet leave few lasting traces.

This series returns these interface symbols to the material world by revisiting early forms of recording—stone carvings, rock paintings, and inscriptions—capable of enduring across time. Digital symbols such as Enter, Delete, Folder, Bluetooth, and the mouse cursor are carved into jade as shallow reliefs.

In Eastern traditions, jade carries order, value, and memory. Inscribing digital language into this ancient material brings together the immediacy of the digital age and the slow temporalities of geology and culture. Symbols once confined to screens become material traces that may endure over time.
